In Language Arts we develop reading skills and comprehension strategies for fiction and non-fiction. We also learn to write in a variety of genres. Major units of study include memoir, poetry, feature writing, and picture books.

Some of our favorite books for read aloud include The Watsons Go To Birmingham -1963, And Then There Were None, Chasing Vermeer, and City of Ember.

Some topics we study in Math are fractions, decimals, percents, ratio, proportion, geometry and probability.

We study vertebrates and invertebrates in Science. We also study weather, simple machines, and endangered species.

Social Studies includes units on the American Revolution, American Government, the Industrial Revolution, and Immigration.

Our classrooms are special because we teach as a team. We have a united group of fifth graders. Collaboration is something we emphasize all year.

Some field trips we might take during the year are visits to The Museum of Science in Boston, Lexington and Concord, and a trip to the Tsongas Center in Lowell.

We look forward to our yearly celebrations such as the American Revolution play, our Poetry Slam and the end-of-the-year Immigration Fair.
