Arrival and Dismissal

Students may arrive at 8:05 am and should report directly to their classrooms. Children arriving by foot may enter through either the main entrance (#1), the gr. 2 rear door (#9), or either of the K/1 breezeway doors (#2, #5).  Parents and Guardians do not escort children to classrooms. Staff are positioned at every entrance each morning to welcome students and assist any child who might need extra support when transitioning into the building.  Children arriving by car may enter through the gym door (#14) beginning at 8:05 am.

Please be sure to determine your child(ren)'s dismissal plan for the day, and confirm it with them before dropping them off in the morning.  The office cannot facilitate the last minute arrangement of afternoon play dates. We will relay only dismissal changes if they are due to unavoidable circumstances.

If you do make a dismissal change, please notify your child's teacher and the office in writing by sending a note or email that morning, or in the case of unplanned, unavoidable circumstances, later in the day. The office has established a special email [email protected] so that all staff will have access to these messages. To be sure that your message is view in a timely way, please be sure to email broadmeadow_office rather than emailing individual staff members. Lastly, due to the volume of messages the office receives, please include the date, your child's name and "early dismissal" or "dismissal change" in your subject line.  This will allow us to quickly identify and sort through messages.  You may also use this address to communicate planned absence

Grade 2 thru 5 Walkers: Gr. 2 thru 5 students (or kindergarten and grade 1 students who have been picked up by a sibling) may exit through either the main entrance (#1) or the gr. 2 rear door (#9). Walkers who exit through the gr. 2 rear door (#9) must stay completely clear of the circular driveway where busses and vans load students. the rear circle at any time. Adults wait outside for their children to exit the building.

Kindergarten & Grade 1 Walkers: Kindergarten walkers not escorted by a sibling are released to a waiting adult through the K/1 breezeway rear door (#5). Grade 1 students not escorted by a sibling are released to a waiting adult through the K/1 breezeway front door (#2).

Children Riding Busses or Vans: Children who travel home or to after school programs on busses or vans are checked in by staff and escorted out the gr. 2 rear doors (#9). Parents of children riding busses or vans are expected to provide teachers and the office with a daily schedule of their child's dismissal plan at the beginning of each year. Any changes to the daily schedule of a bus or van student must be relayed to the teacher and office well in advance of dismissal.  Notification can be made with either a phone call (781-455-0448) or email to [email protected]

Car Pick-Up:
Car pick-up begins shortly after 2:45 at the gym door (#14), and lasts for 5-10 minutes, or until the last car exits. Cars wait along the side of the building and staff load children into the passenger side of cars only. Any adult who is unable to pick up at 2:45 should make alternate travel arrangements for their children that day.   Please be considerate of the residents in our neighborhood.  DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS or park in restricted areas.  To minimize traffic and environmental concerns, please carpool whenever possible.

On days when weather conditions are severe, school will be cancelled. The Needham Public Schools will utilize an emergency notification system that will contact your home phone, cell phones and send an email using the information you have updated in Powerschool.  The "NO SCHOOL" announcement will also be carried by television channels 4, 5, 7, Fox25, and the local cable channel.  Information regarding schools during inclement weather is also prominently displayed on the Needham Public Schools' website

If the Department of Public Works needs extra time to plow the roads or sand the streets to assure safety, the school day will be shortened.  Under this alternative plan, the opening of school and all bus pickups will be delayed two hours.  This includes special education transportation pick-ups for students in out-of-district schools.  The "Two Hour Delayed Opening" announcement will be the same as for school closure.  Parents are reminded not to send children to school early on "Two Hour Delayed Opening" days since the school yards may not be plowed nor will staff be available to supervise early arrivals.  Click here to link to the district memo regarded weather related cancellation and delay as well as emergency early release.
